Lizard Island is valued for its striking beauty, its isolation, and its abundance of wildlife. Some of the natural beauty on Lizard Island includes its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and lush vegetation. Lizard Island is so isolated for a number of reasons. First, it is located in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef, with a large body of water separating it from the mainland of Australia. Additionally, the island is surrounded by gorgeous coral reefs, which make it difficult to reach by boat. Lizard Island gets its name from the fact there are over 100 species of lizard on it, including the largest lizard in the world, the Komodo dragon. A group of lizards is called a lounge. The lounge that lives on the island is composed of around 30 dragons, and is the only group of Komodo dragons in Australia. The lounge is believed to have originated from a single female dragon that was brought to the island in the early 20th century.
