    Overview

Begin your adventure in colorful Cairo.

There’s no better place to start your exploration of Egypt than in Cairo, a modern city that sprawls next to some of the oldest structures in the world. With so much history, archaeology and culture to discover, it is hard to know where to start in Cairo. That’s why you’ll be accompanied in Cairo and throughout your trip by an Egyptologist, a private guide who is a specialist in the scientific study of ancient Egypt and its antiquities.

    Pyramids at Giza

The pyramids at Giza have stood upon a rocky plateau near the Nile River for more than 4,500 years, an enduring tribute to Egypt’s ancient gods and to the pharaohs buried within the pyramids. One of the original Seven Wonders of the World, they now join surrounding ruins as an awe-inspiring UNESCO World Heritage site. Begin your exploration of Egypt with a guided tour of these astounding structures.

    Solar Boat Museum

The reason ancient Egyptians buried a 143-foot wooden ship in a pit carved at the foot of the Great Pyramid isn’t known, but some Egyptologists suggest it was meant as transportation for the pharaoh as he sailed the heavens with the sun god in the afterlife. After years of reconstruction, the ship now rests in a specially built museum where you can visit it with your guide.

    Temple of the Great Sphinx

The Great Sphinx of Giza is an iconic symbol of Egypt. The giant statue of a mythical beast with the head of a human and the body of a lion was originally cut from bedrock and has been restored over the years using stone blocks. The Sphinx is believed to be more than 4,000 years old, but much about it remains open to debate. Enter the temple with your guide and receive exclusive access to the area under the Sphinx’s paws.

    Temples at Philae

The center of the cult of Isis, the ancient monuments on Philae were venerated by pharaohs and Romans alike. When completion of the Aswan High Dam threatened them with inundation, the remaining monuments were moved piece by piece to a higher island, where you see them today. The site is dominated by the spectacular Temple of Isis, one of the last temples built in classical Egyptian style.
